Presenting
Lines and Paths through Time and Space
Summary
I believe that there are “natural lines” and “unnatural lines”. An animal path following the contour of a mountain is a “natural line” while a typical, modern city grid is an “unnatural line”. Likewise—there are “Natural paths” and “Unnatural Paths” that may or may not follow those same lines. Consider our “normal” day here in Santa Fe—going from our home to the cafe to work to the trailhead to the grocery store and then home. Everybody's “normal” day will begin to follow these same lines over and over making them “Natural Paths” within a structure of “Unnatural Lines”. In taking on a challenge such as Every Single Street, we disrupt our “Natural” tendencies to reveal the "Unnatural" structure of both our living environments and the “Natural Paths” that we take on a day-to-day basis.
