Bio
Tom Martinelli is a painter. He was born and raised in Queens, NY and spent the majority of his life living and working between Manhattan and Brooklyn before he migrated to New Mexico 14 years ago. He spent the first 6 New Mexico years in Galisteo (which included living in Agnes Martin’s former studio) as well as in a trailer at the end of a dirt road (which he loved.) Exhibiting since 1984, he’s been the recipient of several grants including 2 Pollock-Krasner Foundation awards, a NYFA grant in photography and fellowships at Yaddo, the VCCA and Tyrone Guthrie Center in Ireland. Tom has taught at Hunter College, the New School and Yale University. After his life in NYC ended and the one in NM began he spent several years in painterly yogic seclusion at a meditation retreat center in NY State. He currently lives in Santa Fe.
