Garrett’s Desert Inn
A design charrette on the historic opportunity to reimagine the future of a landmark downtown property
june 2017
Prompted by the State Land Commissioner’s request for proposals, our design-and-ideas charrette sought to advance innovative development visions for the Garrett’s Desert Inn property - a now-historic example of mid-century architecture that the City’s historic ordinance was drafted to prevent.
Four design proposals were presented for the consideration of the public and a panel of experts that included assistant commissioner Clyde Ward, gallerist Sandy Zane, architect Rad Acton, Dean Geraldine Forbes Isais and Professor Michaele Pride of the UNM School of Architecture and Planning, and moderated by architect Jon Dick.
